Phil Cook likes to be busy. The Durham musician is a founding member of Megafaun and plays in Hiss Golden Messenger. He's also shared the stage with heroes Mavis Staples and John Prine. Now, Cook is releasing his second solo record. The album, People Are My Drug, is inspired by family, friends and humans in general. It includes "Another Mother's Son," a song inspired by the police killing of Philando Castile. Cook penned an essay about the creation of that song, and the need for white people to take action against racism. Phil Cook will host an album release party at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro next Thursday night.
